Catching trends on social media today includes finding a concept online that inspires an idea for recreation. It can be a sound, song, dance or so much more. There are numerous ways in which people find these trends and many of the times are found on social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook and TikTok.
Trends have been in our society for decades, social media just allows for these trends to sit center stage in front of consumers to digest and conform to.
Especially, with platforms like TikTok and Instagram, it is easier than ever to create a concept that people around the world like and want to participate in. Influencers and businesses have taken these opportunities as a chance to get in front of more people across the globe.
How do people find these trends?
To understand chasing trends before they become saturated, you have to know about search engine optimization (SEO). SEO is important to understand because you need to know what ideas are out there specifically in your niche.
In order to do that you need to understand which words to search on a specific platform. From these searches, you can find already trending content and potentially trending content in these categories for you to build inspiration from.
For most social media users, you can simple scroll through what is already being shown to you and filter through saturated and non saturated content.
Here is an example on TikTok of sounds that are saturated versus one that has potential to become saturated or “viral”:
If you are scrolling through social media and do not see a variety of sounds for your content, this could be a key indicator of a lack of algorithm knowledge. You need to further teach the algorithm what you want it to show you by actively engaging and removing things you like and dislike on the platform.
Social media users have to remember that this is a tool that you can use to leverage your positions on the internet. You have to be utilizing the tool efficiently to see the best results from it and thus catch these trends.
Once you begin searching for trends actively you will see a pattern in not only what the saturated versus the non saturated, but the people that are underneath trends before they blow up will tell you a lot about the potential of a non saturated sound.
There really is not special secret to finding a trend on social media other than catching where the traffic will go before it goes there.
