Toxic Positivity in the Social media space: Has social media become toxic?
Some creators on social media believe that the entrepreneurial lifestyle consists strictly of a hustle mindset that entails that you have to work even harder than the people in a 9-5 job, just with a mentality of enablement because you are free to work at any time.
Some creators promote a hustling lifestyle and do not discuss the mental stress that goes into the choices that they make with their business lifestyles.
Some business owners and influencers are aware of the ups and downs of the business and entrepreneurial lifestyle, while others dance around it and gaslight those negative times and experiences rather than embrace them and learn from what they are trying to teach you.
Especially for young audience members, it will be difficult to understand that hustle culture can be toxic when all they see on social media are the results of this lifestyle.
Mentally, that lack of knowledge can only then allow the younger viewer to assume that all they have to do is work their butt off and stay positive for success to fall into their lap.
People display the milestones and video-worthy moments of their experience because they want their viewers to perceive them in such away. Sharing your accomplishments is fine, but when it becomes a culture and lifestyle that people aspire to experience, we must analyze the mental implications of such construct and be transparent about what that experience entails on a positive and negative spectrum.
I discussed some examples of toxic positivity and how you can critically analyze content to be aware of a post that radiates toxic positive vibes. If you would like to hear the discussion on that and hustle culture then check out my latest video : [insert video name and hyperlink here].
As well as, being able to look back on your business journey and evaluate where change a reflection is needed can truly assist you in times of confusion within your journey.
I advise every friend that asks me for business advice to buy a business journal of some kind. I use journal sets like such so that I can have a series of journals for certain themes or periods I want to put on a bookshelf in an aesthetic manner.
Even if journaling is not for you, simply taking time to reflect on your business journey, goals, and accomplishments is important to ensure you are enjoying life outside of your business. Being financially stable is important but being mentally stable is how we can clearly accomplish our goals towards financial stability, so prioritize that first.
Have you ever found yourself burnt out but unable to stop working due to the pressures of social media?
One realization to have about the people who seem to never miss a beat on social media is that they simply do not show the down times. They may have built their online platforms off of the successful moments of their life.
Consider how that person wants to be perceived before you go comparing your behind-the-scenes life to someone you do not know the behind-the-scenes details of.
Social media does have creators that are transparent about their journeys, but even those should be taken lightly and people should revert to seeking their gratification in their lives from trying what they love and experiencing where that takes them.
Learn to be positive in your way rather than trying to mold into what is classified as a positive lifestyle today.
Take time to learn how to accomplish your dreams and goals in a mentally stable way. Keeping our minds healthy allows us to be the best version of ourselves for the journeys we seek to experience.
As always, I’m in your corner.
